As announced last week, our Christmas Pot Luck finger food class party will be on December 15. Like last year, we will be doing a review night the week before (Dec 8), and then doing a real mix of dancing on party night. We will stop for snacks at 8PM, and get back to dancing as soon as most people are finished enjoying the treats.

We also need to talk about restarting after Christmas. Complicating things this year is the extra week of holidays that many school kids are getting. They are off for the full week after New Year's Day, returning to school on Jan 9/12.

This could mean that many parents and grandparents are either home caring for the kids, or taking advantage of the extra time to go away on vacation. We need to ask the class over the next couple of weeks if class should restart during this time, on Jan 5, or wait for the week after and restart on Jan 12.

We had a great time at the Whitby workshop last Saturday! Rob McKean always runs a great even. Having Dan Morrison in the lineup of instructors did not hurt, of course... :)

There was a good turnout, and lots of good dances. Robert taught three dances in two time slots, since Monica's back was not yet up to dancing or teaching.

More discussion about the June 16 Dance Party at class this week! It would seem that many prefer to add a bit of pot luck finger foods/munchies. Neat!

The plan for the last class before our summer break is to dance-dance-dance! No new dances, but step throughs or reviews as required. Dance 'til 8:00PM, stop for a bit of snacking and talking, then dance to the end of class.

A major change will be that the dancing will be mixed, no graduated during the evening. No Beginner-Improver-Intermediate classes - I will be playing for all levels, mixing it up all evening.

Yes, class is back on this week! Today (Tuesday) is the first day I have felt like doing much of anything.....this cold really hangs on!

This was our first time cancelling the Erin class for any reason. It was interesting to see how many people have filled out the contact list, but not put in an email address or phone number. It was also interesting to see how many email bounced back because the addresses were not correct. We truly hope that everyone got the message last week, and nobody showed up at the Erin Legion wondering why there was no class.......

For the very first time in many, many years, we have to cancel a class due to illness.

Both Monica and I have been fighting nasty chest colds, plus I have an infection. We are not in condition to go anyplace. Our apologies for this.

We anticipate things will be back to normal by next week.

Also added - the Dances Taught page has been changed from an Adobe PDF document to a web (HTML) page. This allows me to link to the step sheets of the dances taught!

Only a few step sheets are linked so far. Over the next week or three, I will work my way back over the ones from past week.

Part of this change is using a different editor to update the web (HTML) pages - now using the BestAddress HTML Editor 2009 Professional, from Multimedia Australia. Still learning, so there may be some inconsistencies as all the pages get updated and, where required, fixed.

Just a reminder - by some good luck, our next class falls on St Patrick's Day! Be sure to be wearing the green!!

A small modification to the class list - a table for the codes used. Now, you will know what T, R, Q, S, and C really mean!

A few errors for the February 24 class were noticed and corrected in the Dances Taught list, as well.

I have an outstanding request to post step sheets for dances we have done. That can be done, as part of the Dances Taught list. It will take a few days to convert that list back to HTML, prepare all the stepsheets in pdf format, and add the links.

ETA is two weeks or less. If it looks like it will take longer, I will post a comment here.

Trying to get ahead of things.....

A very hectic weekend, so trying to get ahead of things. The class details from last night are online!

We are not sure yet, so it isn't a commitment, but we are hoping to get to this Sunday's Jamboree at the Erin Legion. Sounds like fun!

First Class of 2011 Went Very Well!

It was a snowy day, and on our drive to Erin we wondered if we should have cancelled....
The weather actually improved once we were north of Caledon Mountain.

The turnout at class showed that the weather was not bad at all - a great way to start 2011!

Please note - if you have any friends who would like to give Line Dancing a try, now is the time. We have a couple of brand new dancers starting this coming week, and will be continuing with first beginner level lessons at 7:00PM for a few weeks.

Slight change in class for 2011!

We found out on Thursday that the class can not be extended for the first night.

Starting Jan 13, 2011, the class will run longer. This will allow us more time for intermediate dancers, for dance time and teaching.

The class strucure will stay the same, with the first hour for Beginners starting at 7:00PM, then a half hour for Improvers, then the Intermediate class.

2010 / 2011 Class Schedule

Please note that the last class of 2010 will be on Dec 16/10.

The last class will be a Pot Luck Goodies/Dance Night, with a minimum of instruction.

All beginner and improver dances will have at least a step through, and the dance levels will be intermixed more than on a typical class night. This will be more of a party night than a class night.

We will break for 20 - 30 minute at 8:00PM to sample the goodies.

We will return in 2011 on January 6.

This gives everyone a two week break for family and holiday activities.

We hope that everyone has a great holiday!

Snow Watch is being reactivated!

Given the time of year, and the weather, I am reactivating the CCN Snow Watch.

The Snow Watch will be updated by 5:00PM on class day if the weather is forcing a cancellation.

Erin is not listed by Environment Canada. If anyone knows which city's weather is closed to that occuring in Erin, please let me know.

Would it be Orangeville? Guelph? Halton Hills? If there is a city that very closely matches the weather in Erin, I can add it to the list of cities on the Cool Country Nights Road and Weather Conditions page.

Another great night in Erin!

In spite of the fog - on the way there from Brampton, I was wondering if we should not have turned back - there was a great turnout!

Much enthusiasm, and I think much fun was had.

We have settled on a class plan:
- 7:00PM - 8:00PM: Beginner
- 8:00PM - 8:30PM: Improver (Beginner Plus)
- 8:30PM - 9:00PM: Intermediate

This class plan will hold for the rest of 2010. If there will be a change in 2011, we will announce it in class and publish the details here first.

We also asked for a vote on how long the class will run before taking a break for Christmas. As we approach Christmas, many people find they have other places to be - parties, work functions, family visits, shopping, wrapping, decorating, etc, etc.

The concensus was to have the last class on Dec 16. However, some people had already left when we raised the question, so we will be asking again next week.

The play list for Nov 25/10 and the updated Dances Taught list are now online.

Great start for the Erin line dance class!

A great turnout, lots of enthusiasm, and lots of laughter. What more can you ask for?

We will be working on the class structure between now and next Thursday, and reviewing where we set up in the hall.
Last night was good, but a number of people were backed up against the posts.
Why they build these halls with posts in the middle of the floor will always be beyond me....

New class in Erin!

Starting on November 18, at 7:00PM, we will be teaching a line dance class at the Erin Legin.

The Legion is located at 12 Dundas Street East, Erin, ON.

The class will be two hours long, running until 9:00PM.

At least the first part of the evening will be for new dancers, so if you or your friends have not tried line dancing, now is the time to give it a try!

Turnout at the couples class last night was not sufficient
to justify continuing the class.

This is dissapointing at many levels.
If the interest is not there, we can but try.

Class Prices and Flyers finalized!

The line dance class will start on Thurday, September 16.
Classes will be $8.00 per person, and run from 7:00PM to 10:00PM
7PM to 8PM will be a beginner class for new dancers
From 8PM to the end of the evening will be beginner to intermediate.

The couples class will start on Tuesday, September 14.
This will be a 12 week session, with a price advantage for preregistering.
Registration for the full 12 weeks will be $120.00 per person.
Walk ins will be welcome, at $12.00 per person.
Class will be structured, with the first hour a beginner class for new dancers. We usually use Two Step to get people moving.
The second hour will be pattern dances.
The third hour will be an intermdiate class.

The class has 8 more weeks to run. Anyone joining now will be charged $88 for the rest of the classes, or $13.00 per class on a drop in basis.
There is only one catch - the May 24 weekend. It has been suggested that we hold the class on the Tuesday, May 25.

Strange weather this year!

We were reading about last week's storm for several days. What happened - was it cancelled and nobody told us?

Back to normal class this week. See you on the dance floor!

Environment Canada continues to call for weather conditions that will likely be quite nasty for tonight. They have also issued a weather advisory for the Toronto area.

I am not sure when the weather will arrive in Acton. Environment Canada is calling for today and tonight, but other sources such as the 680News radio station are saying Friday morning.

Therefore, we have decided to err on the side of caution. Class is cancelled for tonight. Please pass the word around to your friends.

The description of the weather for tonight sounds like it would keep many people at home, even if the storm does not really arrive until later.

We are concerned about the weather for this week's class.

The weather for Brampton on Thursday indicates snow and blowing snow, up to 15cm during Thursday day and evening.

The weather for Halton Hills, which is the closest city to Acton that is listed by Environment Canada, is pretty much the same.

Finally - getting things done on time!

Excellent class last night! Lots of enthusiasm, lots of dancing.

I am still finding it a challenge for dance time. We don't all know the same set of dances yet, since many are just getting back into dancing, while others dance at various places. For example, we did Bop The B, and I was surprised at how many had never seen it before. This will work itself out over time.

Really glad the freezing rain did not turn out to be much more than a little bit on the windshield. Nothing on the roads that I could see.

Rennovations on the Acton Town Hall are proceeded, and it is neat to see this happening over the weeks. Less neat are some of the side effects, such as the smell from the newly refinished floor in the main auditorium. We were concerned when we arrived last night, but it didn't seem to effect anyone as much as we had thought it might. The floor in the auditorium looks amazing! At least, as much as we could see in the dark....could not turn on the lights in there, since the switches are inside the auditorium, and the floor was still drying, or curing, or whatever it does.

Playing Catch-Up - just getting last week's details posted.

This past weekend was our annual skiing trip to the Wiarton area - a great weekend with great company at McIvor House - an amazing B&B!

Due to my injury, I wimped out and didn't ski this year. Things might be OK, but I am not great at cross country skiing, and didn't want to take a chance on reinjuring my foot.

Next goal is to provide step sheets for all the dances taught in class, in Adobe pdf format. The step sheets will be linked directly from the dance name in the Dances Taught page. Coming soon!
