Introducing...

THE NEILSON'S

As one of Canada's finest country acts, The Neilson's are truly a delight to witness. Their strong vocals and tight harmonies have captured the hearts of many country music fans throughout Canada and the U.S. and, when they perform, you never know what Ron may have up his sleeve. They have entertained audiences not only with their great songs and music, but their fun-loving antics keep their audiences coming back for more.

As this year's recipients of "Best New Artist" in the music video category for their song and video to "Windows to the Past" the Neilson's are making their mark on the international market. They've just completed a western Canada tour to sell-out audiences and standing ovations and have been invited to perform at the Country Music Week Showcase to be held in Calgary, Alberta this coming September 5-9. In a few short years as a country group, the Neilson's have progressed from performing at Country Fairs and Events to nationally televised Showcase Events and opening acts for world-famous artists such as Vince Gill and Jason McCoy.

Ron (Papa) and Betty (Mama) Neilson, have been in the music business for over twenty years. As their three children grew older and expressed interest in the industry, Ron taught son, Jay (now 18) to play the bass guitar and son, Todd (now 13) to play the drums. Ron and Betty taught their three children how to harmonize and daughter Tami (now 19) how to project her beautiful voice. This incredible family decided to switch to country music around three years ago and have never regretted it.

Their debut CD simply entitled "The Neilson's" is a must for every country music lover. Every song is written from the heart and is performed with impeccable quality. Ontario Choreographer/ Instructor Deb Crew fell in love with their music and has choreographed two wonderful line dances to two of their songs off this CD. The line dance "Let's Dance!" is a "funky" kind of dance and reflects the mood of Tami's song "Let's Dance!" The song "There'd Be Something Wrong" written and performed by Ron, is pure FUN song so Deb created the line dance "Sumthing's Rong" to reflect the spirit of the music and lyrics. The line dance "Sumthing's Rong" will be used in their next music video, scheduled for production sometime later in the year. To obtain copies of these dances, visit the North Country Dance Productions Dance Steps pages.

Many Ontario dance instructors have offered their support to help this wonderfully gifted family gain exposure. Robert Fielder helped distribute many copies of their flyers and dance sheets at several large functions in Ontario and has offered to set this page up on his site. He plays their music as often as he can at local dances and classes and has found a wonderful line dance called "Back Roads" choreographed by Michaell Barr, to compliment their song "This Old Highway". Instructors Helga Kostiak, Robert Young, Dan Morrison, Susanne Harrison, Jenny McKim-Lyness, Ann Emslie, and Nick McMaster, to name a few, have helped in more ways than they realize and for this the Neilson's would like to thank-you all! Special thanks and acknowledgment to Gail Callicott, of Wasaga Beach, Ontario for her never-ending support and energy to help this incredible country group.
